The main problem I had with it is that it tries tooooooo hard. Does it succeed? Essentially, yes it does. It's a funny idea for a movie, but it's not really a funny movie. There are some kicks to be had in it, but it's a stretch. The parents and grandfather are a blast but the kids--not so much. They're a tad annoying at times. I was too at that age:) The sets were done just right. The creature effects were just right too. The aliens added charm to this one. Would I go out of my way recommending this to anyone? Not really. Still, it's a fun and brainless view as expected. How much you enjoy it is up to your threshold for laughs. I grew up on 80's horror in the 80's so nothing will be quite up to snuff in that department for me as far as anything that is contemporary. Might as well watch an actual cheesy 80's movie first if you haven't seen them all already. "il veut cultiver de l'authentique" "c'est pas moi qui pleure, c'est mes yeux! " "Manon je t'aime d'amour! "... : les répliques cultes sont portées par des acteurs totalement investis de leur rôle; pas une fausse note. Pagnol a dit une fois qu'il avait construit le récit à partir d'une histoire vraie qu'on lui aurait racontée. Possible. Je connais plutôt bien une partie de cette Provence, qui fut très longtemps mon second cadre de vie pour quasiment tous les congés scolaires, année après année. Le fait est que les 'pays' ne se livrent pas aisément aux 'estrangers' - mais ni plus ni moins qu'ailleurs? Et l'estranger, c'est déjà celui de l'autre village en face! Le récit le rappelle bien, en parlant de "ceux de Crespin"... Je n'ai jamais lu Pagnol: dès l'acquisition de la propriété familiale là-bas, on m'a submergé de ses livres adaptés pour l'enfance. Et ça ne m'intéressait pas du tout, j'ai donc rejeté cette oeuvre que je n'ai goûté bien plus tard que par le cinéma.
